Books for Sequencing Goals

Sequencing, or putting events in chronological order, is an important skill for children to master. Sequencing can be targeted in speech therapy using books. During reading, pause and repeat everything in the sequence up to that point. Then, use picture cards after the story to help retell the events.

Below are suggestions of books for sequencing practice. Happy reading!

  • “There Was an Old Lady Who Swallowed…” series, by Lucille Colandro

  • “In Arctic Waters,” by Laura Crawford

  • “Room on the Broom,” by Julia Donaldson

  • “If You Give a Mouse a Cookie,” by Laura Numeroff
