Dolphins are a fun topic for summer speech therapy! During reading, children can practice speech sounds, describe pictures, and sequence story events. Following the books, children and their families can engage in dolphin-themed crafts, such as painting dolphin pictures. Crafts are a wonderful opportunity to address prepositions and describing skills. Chapter books for older children are also a good way to discuss character traits and make predictions.
Below are suggestions of books about dolphins. Happy reading!
“One White Dolphin,” by Gill Lewis
“Winter's Tail: How One Little Dolphin Learned to Swim Again,” by Craig Hatkoff, Isabella Hatkoff, and Juliana Hatkoff
“Magic Treehouse: Dolphins at Daybreak,” by Mary Pope Osborne
“Emily Windsnap: Dolphin Rescue,” by Liz Kessler
