Are you a caregiver trying to engage your kids in summer reading? There are many interesting early chapter books available at your local library to suit a variety of interests. Early chapter books are a great way for children who are phasing out of picture books to begin reading longer stories. Early chapter books often contain some pictures to keep younger readers engaged.
Without summer reading, many children are at risk for the “summer slide. The summer slide can result in a decline in a child’s reading skills by the fall. Below are suggestions of early chapter books. Happy reading!
“Itty Bitty Princess Kitty,” by Melody Mews
“The Princess in Black,” by Shannon Hale and Dean Hale
“Mercy Watson,” by Kate DiCamillo
“Frog and Toad,” by Arnold Lobel
