F Speech Sound Development

Did you know the /F/ speech sound develops at different ages in English and Spanish? In English, the /F/ sound typically emerges around age 3, while in Spanish, it typically emerges closer to age 4. When evaluating bilingual children, it’s important to remember that sounds emerge in different patterns across languages. If you’re a caregiver with questions about your child’s speech sound development, reach out to a speech therapist for an evaluation.
