Fish Speech & Language Activities

Fish are a fun topic for speech and language activities. Many speech and language goals can be met while studying different types of fish and their habitats. Fictional characters can bring these topics to life for younger children, while older children may enjoy some non-fiction readings. During reading, there will also be ample opportunity for speech sounds, such as /sh/.

Below are suggestions of books about fish. Happy reading!

  • “The Pout Pout Fish,” by Deborah Diesen

  • “The Rainbow Fish,” by Marcus Pfister

  • “How to Hug a Pufferfish,” by Ellie Peterson

  • “Swimmy,” by Leo Lionni
