Foxes are a fun theme for speech therapy. There are many ways to target speech and language goals while learning about foxes in the wild, as well as enjoying tales of storybook fox friends. My own personal favorite is Fletcher the Fox! During reading, children can practice speech sounds, describe pictures, and retell the story in their own words. Following the books, children and their families can learn about fox habitats, diet, and fun facts. Fox dioramas are a wonderful opportunity to address following directions and describing skills.
Below are suggestions of books featuring foxes. Happy reading!
“Fletcher and the Springtime Blossoms,” by Julia Rawlinson
“Pax,” by Sara Pennypacker
“A Fox Named Fox,” by Dima Eichorn
“Little Fox,” by Linda Blackmoor
