Pre-Verbal Communication in Babies

Did you know that babies communicate before they begin speaking? Many babies who are on track to speak their first words by one year of age will use pre-verbal communication. Some examples include vocalizing, gesturing, pointing, and joint attention. Babies may point to desired items or make squeals of delight. This is typical development and shows that your baby is learning to communicate. If you have questions or concerns about your baby’s speech and language development, reach out to a speech therapist.
