What Speech Errors Are Age-Appropriate?

It’s true that speech sounds develop at different times, with some of the latest sounds developing at age 6. However, a good rule of thumb is that an unfamiliar listener, such as a new teacher, should understand at least 50 percent of what your child says by age 2, and at least 75 percent by age 3. If you find yourself constantly translating for your older preschooler, it may be time to see a speech therapist.
